Attend Ubuntu Developer Week using Lernid
We all know that Ubuntu community is always ready to help the new users learn more about Ubuntu and GNU/Linux. They organize a lot of online learning events frequently, Ubuntu User Day; Ubuntu Developer Week ,to do so. It is because of the greatly appreciable work by Jono Bacon, the Ubuntu community Manager at Canonical, that now it is very easy to attend those events using the application Lernid.
Lernid is an amazing application built by keeping in mind the requirements of a user attending the online events. You have access to the schedule of the event, its online wiki, ubuntu-classroom and ubuntu-chatroom channel and even your terminal from this single application. Lets start with its installation.
Install Lernid
In order to install lernid you will have to add the package archives repos of Lernid. So, either run this command in the terminal,
[shredder12]$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lernid-devs/lernid-releases
or open the file /etc/apt/sources.list
[shredder12]$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and add these 2 lines in it,
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/lernid-devs/lernid-releases/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/lernid-devs/lernid-releases/ubuntu karmic main
run the update,
[shredder12]$ sudo apt-get update
and now install lernid.
[shredder12]$ sudo apt-get install lernid
Attend Ubuntu Developer Week using Lernid
Since, right now "Ubuntu Developer Week" is going on. So, I will take its example and show you guys how to use it to attend the online events.
Open Applications -> Internet -> Lernid. and you will see a window similar to this
Now, once hitting connect you will automatically be connected to the appropriate session going on then.
As you will see in the screenshot below, dholback mentioned a link and a slide in the classroom and Lernid automatically opened the appropriate link and slide to ease the users' job
. Its no doubt an amazing application
.
There is one major bug in this application, when you open Edit -> Preferences, the application crashes. Even though it might not happen to you, but there have been some cases. So, its better to avoid than to regret.
So, Linuxers you better install Lernid and attend the great classes on Ubuntu Developer week. And lets thank Jono Bacon again for this wonderful application.
