Canonical announces the release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release Candidate

Steve Langasek, Ubuntu Release Manager, announced the Release of Ubuntu 10.04, code named Lucid Lynx, Release Candidate. This will be followed by the final stable release a week later, on 29th April 2010. As Steve said, this Release candidate is considered to be complete, stable and suitable for testing by any user.

Two weeks after the release of the second Beta, this Release Candidate comes with some new improvements. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop and Netbook editions show improvements in booting and start up speeds and better booting experience.

The Desktop edition features built-in integration with Twitter, identi.ca, Facebook, and other social networks with the MeMenu in the panel. You would be aware of the new theme, new wallpapers, icons etc. which bring a new look and feel to Ubuntu.

The Netbook edition is optimized for Intel atom based devices which features faster boot experience to bring users online asap. The Netbook edition built specifically for ARM based processors comes bundled with lightweight applications set.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition provides better integration with Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud and the EC2 and UEC server brings power and stability of 10.04 server to cloud computing, whether you are using your own Ubuntu Enterprise cloud or Amazon's EC2.

Installation faile d to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 via update-manager with cited video problems. I read I'm not alone with this error; consequently I wonder why software with such a buggy install should be released. Also codecs for H.264 seem to be unavailable for this release. It looks pretty but I need it to work. 5/10 so far boys. Angela
