Gingerbread's rumours denied by Android's Tech Lead
"Android 3.0, releasing in mid-oct, will need at least 1GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a display with 1280x760 resolution". This recent news has created a lot of buzz among Android fans. If you see carefully, hardly any phones today meet such specs. So, is Google going to alienate most of the Eclair/Froyo running phones? Actually not. In a tweet, Dan Morrill, Android opensource and compatibility Tech lead, declared that the news is made up.
This news first surfaced in a Russian podcast, Digestiv, where Mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin told about these Gingerbread updates. Although its not even sure that its Android 3.0 which is said to be released in October this year. Its just an upcoming release, who knows, it could be Android 2.3 or something else. There is no official announcement as of now.
This tweet refers to an unwiredview article whose writer gave the updates after translating the Podcast. Eldar kept saying 'Android Three' which was later clarified by him in a tweet saying that he's not sure about the version, its just an upcoming release.
And all the fuss about the min. specs is not true either. They are recommendations, not a "minimal requirement" to run the OS. This actually makes sense because drastically changing the minimal hardware requirements for an update, to be relased in 3-4 months, didn't seem to be a wise decision in the first place.
Well, we still don't know if these are actually rumours or just a google strategy to maintain a little suspense. But such leaks will keep coming until there is some official announcement from google.
