Install pidgin 2.6 in fedora 11
Finally the latest version of Pidgin 2.6 is out now. For some of you who are wondering what is Pidgin, it is by far the best cross-platform Instant messaging client.Because of the advancements in libpurple it now supports both Voice and Video. Currently this feature is available only for XMPP but according to pidgin developers it will soon be available for all protocols.
This voice and video feature is availble only on linux systems. Well, isn't it great to have softwares finally developing new features for linux based systems first ;) . Anyways since this release of Pidgin is very new, you won't be able to install it on Fedora using the default repos. You will have to download and install it from other locations.
For Fedora core 10, 11 and 12, Pidgin 2.6 will be available in the default repos after the next update. They can install it easiliy.
[jasonleon]$ yum -y install pidgin
For Fedora core 8 and below Install the Pidign repositories on your system using the following command.
[jasonleon]$ wget http://rpm.pidgin.im/fedora/pidgin.repo -O /etc/yum.repos.d/pidgin.repo
Now, run an update to get the newly installed repos.
[jasonleon]$ yum update
Now, install the update using this command:
[jasonleon]$ yum -y install pidgin
