The official name of the Fedora 13 has been announced, Goddard

The voting for the name of Fedora's next release Fedora 13 ended on 4th Dec and the name is officially announced, its going to be Goddard. It won by a total of 1177 votes. Goddard is named after the great Rocket Scientist Robert H Goddard. Fedora guys gave this name a little thought. According to them, Konstantin (pronounced Constantine) Tsiolkovsky was a Russian rocket scientist and so was Robert H Goddard. There were 6 other names in the final list and all of them were related to Constantine.

At the closing of the Fedora Range voting, there were a total of 313 valid ballets. According to the Fedora Range Voting method, each candidate could attain a maximum of 2191 votes (313*7). And finally  this is the final score sheet.

This time Fedora officials tried to connect the new release's name with their previous release, Constantine. Lets see how were the finalists related to Constantine.

Goddard Since Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was a rocket scientist, so is Robert H. Goddard
Langstorm Constantine is the last name of a character in comics, so as Langstrom.
Gloriana Constantine is a character of Arthurian legends (based on the historical figure), and so is Gloriana, the Faerie Queen.
Botany Constantine is a bay in the UK, and so is Botany (in Australia), It is also the science of plants
Loana Constantine is a sobriquet of an African dynastic ruler (descendant of Solomon and Sheba - real name Zara Yakob) as is Loana (Ever Youthful Rain Queen - real name Modjadji.

Manfredi  Gregory M. Constantine and Juan J. Manfredi are both professors of the Department of Mathematics of the Pittsburgh University
