Ubuntu 10.04, codenamed Lucid Lynx, Beta2 released

With only 3 weeks left for the release of the new Ubuntu 10.04, codenamed 'Lucid Lynx', Ubuntu Developers have announced the release of its second Beta. This is going to be the last beta release, followed by the final development milestone, a Release Candidate on 22nd April, a week before the final release of Lucid Lynx.

There have been a bunch of updates since the last Beta release.

  • The window management button orders have changed. They are in the order of "close-minimize-maximize" now.
  • Ubuntu one has now the ability to synchronize your firefox bookmarks and mobile contacts.
  • Ubuntu has now been integrated with Rhythmbox Music Player.
  • Gnome 2.30 desktop
  • The installer slideshow has changed. Now, has a brand new look.

How to Upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04

Although, this beta is still not suggested to be used on production environments but if you want to try it out, its always easy.

1. Press Alt-F2 and run "update-manager -d".

2. Now, you will see this option to upgrade to 10.04 in the update-manager. Click "upgrade" and follow the instructions.

Hey i just did a fresh install from the Beta 2 ISO and the default search engine is Yahoo. You sure ab out it being Google?

Thanks Joel, I didn't check for this feature in the 2nd beta. Read Rick's announcement mail about making the changes asap so I thought it would have been incorporated in the 2nd beta release. Although as stated by Rick in his announcement mail it appears that the default search provider will be shifted to google at most by 15th, final freeze.
