Ubuntu Electronics Remix

I have seen a lot of linux like OS or their derivatives but this one is certainly out of the box. An operating system focused on electronics, it is indeed great. Ubuntu Electronics Remix or (UER) is an Ubuntu derivative OS, aimed to make Ubuntu for electronics as easy as possible. This release is based on Ubuntu 9.10. UER provides a live DVD of open source electronics software. Check out its features and screenshots.

Ubuntu Electronics Remix covers a broad range of electronics softwares. The project aims to provide all the power of electronics softwares with all the advantages of open source softwares, this is as stated in their homepage.

The ISO was available on the main site, but due to a lot of downloads the month bandwidth was finished. So, they are trying to set up a torrent until then if you are already using Ubuntu 9.10, you can turn it in to your own Ubuntu Electronics Remix.

There are a lot of electronics applications available in UER, for Circuit and PCB designing, embedded development, HDL programming and for basic electronic learning too. Its main features are:

  • Electronics applications pre-installed for schematics editing, PCB design, Verilog, VHDL, embedded development and education.
  • Ancillary applications for project planning and version control.
  • Getting started tutorials.
  • Helper scripts.
