How to update your Firefox to 3.6.4 on Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx

Firefox recently released a major update of the browser, Firefox 3.6.4. Major is not in the sense of version numbers, its the integration of Out of Process Plugins which isolates Third Party plugins and prevents Firefox crashes and freezes because of them. In this howto, I will tell you how to update your Firefox to the latest release on Lucid.

Firefox 3.6.4 is available in the ubuntu-mozilla-security ppa and in order to download and install it, run the following commands.

[shredder12]$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

[shredder12]$ sudo apt-get update

Now, if somehow the first command doesn't work for you then try the manual adding of PPA in APT sources.

If this all goes well, then you will see an update of Firefox in the update manager.

Install it and enjoy the crash protective Firefox 3.6.4.

Please note that, this method should work on other Ubuntu releases as well, but we don't guarantee any success.

Works a charm. Thanks. A bit of security fixing going on there, too.

Now firefox 4.0 has been launched which is more good than firefox 3.6.Remember you can change to firefox 4.0 by upgrading from older firefox version
